Local Green Events: Central Ohio Car Free Day is this Thursday, September 22, 2011.
What is Car Free Day?
Car Free Day is an international event to be celebrated in Central Ohio on Thursday, September 22, 2011. Get the latest updates on Facebook by searching for Central Ohio Car Free Day. Hear what local leaders have to say about Car Free Day by tuning into COTA's YouTube Channel.
CAR FREE DAY PLEDGES
Be one of the many that will reduce or eliminate the use of their car on September 22. Just for one day consider your alternatives. The possibilities are endless. You can walk, ride your bike, take the bus or ride with a friend. Take your pledge to be car free today.
CAR FREE DAY SPOTS
Also on September 22, be on the lookout for everyday parking spots that have been transformed into car free spots to demonstrate what our community could be like with fewer cars on the road. By taking a fair number of cars off the roads, people who live and work in central Ohio are given a chance to consider how our region might look and work with a lot fewer cars.
CAR FREE DAY EMPLOYER RECOGNITION AWARDS
The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC), through its RideSolutions program, is recognizing four employers that offer solutions to improve mobility and air quality in our region. Join us on Wednesday, September 21 at Noon at The Columbus Commons' Lunch on the Lawn for a Car Free Day Pep Rally and Awards Ceremony honoring Bricker & Eckler, Columbus Food League, Franklin County Board of Commissioners, and The Ohio Department of Health for promoting alternative transportation options to their employees.
